The purpose of this website is to provide information, advice, and assistance to potential students and prospective lecturers or researchers from foreign countries.

As a new unit in Universitas Negeri Padang, we aim to ensure that every international student has the most positive experience possible at Universitas Negeri Padang and to provide service and information to the staffs and students of Universitas Negeri Padang who want to continue study or find scholarship in foreign country.

Universitas Negeri Padang is included as the 50 promising Indonesian Universities. It was announced by Directorate General of Higher Education (DGHE) Ministry of National Education (now Ministry of Education and Culture). DGHE has recently released a list of 28 public universities (PTN) and 22 private colleges (PTS) categorized as promising universities.

UNP is located on Jalan Prof. Dr. Hamka Air Tawar, Padang, the capital of Province of West Sumatra. The status of UNP as a university is relatively new . It was formerly known as Institute for Teachers Training and Education (IKIP) Padang. Since 1997, UNP has wider mandate, it does not only produce professional teachers for the education sector but has now expanded into the fields of non-educational sector in each faculty. However, UNP still maintains and keeps its reputation as an educational institution.

In order to build its capacity as the center of excellence for scientific encounters of inter-disciplines in educational and non-educational fields and to produce professional and qualified teachers besides qualified graduates of non-educational programs, UNP continuously improves its capacity and capability both internally and externally. Internally, UNP continuously improves its human and non-human resources. Externally, UNP tries to extend the cooperation networks to related parties in local, regional, national, and international levels.

UNP provides short course of Bahasa Indonesia for foreigners (BIPA), Cultural Studies, traditional culinary (such as, rendang).
